Gifting a skill of either literacy or sewing this holiday season can mean a lifetime of change for parents staying with children at our Malnutrition Treatment Center.

In Northern Haiti, literacy can open up a world of opportunity, yet over half of the parents at our Malnutrition Treatment Centers have had three or fewer years of formal education, and nearly 50% cannot read or write. With daily lessons in reading and writing, this gift empowers women to help their families in new ways, from reading medicine labels to supporting their children’s education.

Learning the skill of sewing empowers women in Haiti with a valuable, income-generating ability. With sewing, they can create and sell clothing, household items, or repairs, providing a sustainable way to support their families. Beyond income, sewing also fosters confidence, creativity, and a sense of independence, giving women greater control over their future.
